A Magical Sendoff

Half packed, starry eyed from a week long vacation with my family, a car driven by good friends pulled up  to the front of the house, waiting to chauffeur us to a destination unknown.  We knew something was coming, but we didn’t know what, where or with whom.  As we loaded into the car, the feeling was excitement paired with a looming sense of sadness, knowing this would be the last time we would see close friends for a long time. When we pulled into the driveway of Small Wonders Farm, a farm cultivated by one of Jazz’s beloved professors, Dr. Bonzo and his wife, Dorothy, we saw our closest friends waiting to greet us, and we were overwhelmed with gratitude.

The sun was gently setting over the soon-to-harvest array of vegetables and herbs, and the table was set with linens and fresh cut flowers from the farm.  Our friends made a vegetarian feast of delicious food that would beat any top caterer.  Homemade sangria and mojito, craft beer and red wine, everything was heavenly.

“I am so lucky,” I thought. “We have friends as close as family and we are so loved.  And they can cook.  It just doesn’t get much better than that.”

And so then we did what we usually do when we get together with friends.  We feasted and talked about life and laughed really hard about inside jokes.  We made plans for the future and dreamed of  many “what-if” situations that involved spending more time together.

And then we said goodbye.  And it was hard and emotional.  I cried a little.  Who brought the wine?!  But these people will always be loved and cherished by our family.  And they will always be home to us.  And so, yes, goodbye for now, but we will see you again soon.

xoxo
